Raine's Secret Garden

NOT A-MUSED

Could someone please—PLEASE—tell me why it is that when I have time to write, I don’t feel like it…and when I DON’T have time, the Muse is anchored like a freaking monkey on my back, digging in the spurs and screaming in my ears like some PMS-ing banshee??

Tuesday I’d been busy all day, as usual. Around 3 a.m., I’m ready for bed, but figured I’d take a writing pad in with me. And suddenly…I’m in the ZONE. The fingers are flying, pages are appearing. And it’s GOOD stuff, stuff that probably won’t need much editing. :woot:

Before I know it, I look at the clock.
Five freaking a.m.
I realize I’ve got to go to bed. Little things like going to sucky day job, being alert enough to drive there, etc., are intervening. The words are flowing, with all the little innuendoes and subtle dialogue I probably won’t be able to pin down tomorrow. I’ve done this before. That’s how it works.

IT’S SO DAMNED IRRITATING, and I want to SCREAM!!
Sigh…anyway, end of rant… back to real life… :???:

  • May says:

    I hear you, Raine.

And I can never fall asleep right away after writing, so I’ve to stop even earlier. :nonono:

  • Cece says:

What I really hate is when I want to write but I have to edit :(

  • Yep I’ve been there. When I’d have time to write, nothing would come. In the car *blinks* or the shower, suddenly I’m hit with a case of the muse.

  • raine says:

    May—YES! :yesyesyes:

Even when I know I HAVE to go to sleep to be able to function the next day, I CAN’T. The brain simply won’t stop working. It’s been possessed! :poof:

  • raine says:

Cece, yes, that’s just as bad.
That’s when all the NEW stuff occurs to you, when you really feel like moving on, not correcting.

  • raine says:

    Mechele, EXACTLY!!

Maybe the subconscious functions better when we’re not focusing on all the external stuff.
    But it’s so unfair!

  • Mine loves to wait until I’m not near paper. The bastard.:wtf:

  • raine says:

Mine loves to wait until I’m not near paper. The bastard…

    Jordan, mine does that too.
    Except I think it’s a bitch.

  • May says:

The PDA goes everywhere with me because the bastard likes to do that. Yes, my muse is a he.

We won’t talk about him trying to be funny when I’m in the examination hall!!

  • I can relate so well with this, Raine. I often get inspired to write in the middle of the night–and come up with some of my best work then, writing into the wee hours of the morning. Perhaps it has something to do with our heads being clearer because we’re geared for rest.

Worst of all is when I find my thoughts drifting when listening to a friend talk because I’ve suddenly had this great idea to enhance my story. Then I have to pretend I just heard everything they said. You know, sort of the way a man does. LOL

  • Jaq says:

I remember having those bursts of inspiration. Like you channelling, rather than writing/creating. Look at it this way, if our muses could be made to work to rule, all those peeps who say “I plan to write a book one day’ realy could. lol.

  • What is it about putting head to pillow that gets the voices in my head going? :wtf:

  • raine says:

Interesting, the sexes of these muses, lol…

    May! Not in the CLASSROOM?!
    Yikes… :nonono:

  • raine says:

…Then I have to pretend I just heard everything they said. You know, sort of the way a man does. LOL …

    Daisy—LMAO!!! :lmao:
I know EXACTLY what you mean. Except I’m usually left standing there thinking, “why is this person bothering me while the voices are talking??!” :???:

And dammit, if they’re going to be the most inspiring in the wee hours, they’d better fix it so I don’t have to get up for a sucky day job!

  • raine says:

Jaq, it IS very much like channeling.

But at convenience store hours.

  • raine says:

What is it about putting head to pillow that gets the voices in my head going?…

Your voices have a down fetish??

Kidding, lol…I’m sure it has something to do with clearing the decks. It’s possible they speak to us all the time. Maybe we’re just too bloody busy to LISTEN.

And if anyone’s missed it, check out Bailey’s VOICE TRANSCRIPTION.
Tickled me to death, lol. :lmao:

  • Why thank you Raine with an “e” – but that’s just a normal everyday conversation for me. I know, I should be scared then, but hey – they keep me company. Glad you liked it.

  • Michelle M says:

Gaw this has happened to me, too. I want to write, it’s all I think about, but I’m so damn busy I can’t stop to write. And then when I sit down, I get nothing. Nada. It totally sucks.

I did manage to get a lot of editing done this weekend on my forthcoming book. It was good stuff. :)

  • raine says:

Michelle, I’ve come to believe it’s some kind of cruel cosmic joke, specifically directed against writers… :yesyesyes:

    (congrats on the edits!)

  • Cece says:

    >>Worst of all is when I find my thoughts drifting when listening to a friend talk

Sad that the voices in our heads are more interesting than real folks–or not :lmao:
