Raine's Secret Garden

LIMBO

This will be a different sort of post for me. But before I say anything else, I’d like to thank everyone who popped in and expressed concern (and the one who wrote me to offer personal encouragement, you know who you are). THANK YOU. You’re good people.

First, I want to offer belated congratulations to Tracey O’ Hara for not only winning Karin Tabke’s First Line Contest, but for receiving a request! :woot: :woot:
And to Vanessa Jaye for having two–count ‘em, TWO–entry finals in the Romance Junkies competition! :woot: :woot:

On a sadder note, sending sympathies out to Bailey Stewart on the passing of her mother after a long, debilitating illness. Love you, hon.

As for me…

RE-EVALUATING

Raine is currently re-evaluating.

“What is she re-evaluating?” you might ask.

Her career.

“What about her career?” you might ask.

Exactly.

Back soon.

YAY!

Steph has sold Jake!!

Ok, didn’t mean it quite that way, lol.
Stephanie Tyler has been offered a three-book deal by Bantam Dell for her wonderful Seal series.
All I can say is congratulations and…
WOW. :woot: :woot: :woot:

In other news…
I have absolutely none.
But I am blogging at the Chicas today. :waving:

MORE FIRST LINES

If ya haven’t been there, you should definitely go.

Paperback Writer is holding a first line contest.
There will be three prizes awarded of books to be ordered online, valued at $30.00 or less.

But this isn’t the best reason to visit the site.
The BEST reason is because there are some truly AWESOME first lines being posted on that page!!
Check it out!

And on a related note…

PBW is also encouraging authors with weblogs or websites to write and publish their own free-to-the-public e-books for viewing or downloading on October 31rst.

She will choose 20 of the e-books at random and offer free critiques.
But honestly, I’d been wanting to do this for some time. I like the idea of posting free reads. Just a very small way of saying “thank you” for anybody interested in my work. :yesyesyes:

I’m trying to give this one a shot, lol. I’ll definitely be posting a short story from a former fund-raiser for Katrina, and another I’d written exclusively for my newsletter.
But I’m trying to finish a novella to post by then too. This will be iffy—only a month to go, and I’ve only got about 50 pages so far.
But maybe it will force encourage me to get my buns in gear with the writing anyway.

Just remember—no fair laughing at my covers (yes, we’re supposed to make our own!). :poof: :poof: :poof: :poof:

Yeah, I Suck…

I’ve been a lousy blogger lately.

But I can absolutely justify it—because I’ve been a lousy writer lately too.

The things I already have out there in submission-land have no doubt turned to dust by now. The couple of new things I have finished need revising. Haven’t done it. The new things that need finishing—haven’t finished ‘em. And it’s not that they’re boring or don’t deserve finishing. They’re good stories.

So I need to get my ass in gear and become more motivated.
And it occurs to me that the biggest motivators are success–and failure.
So maybe that middle-ground, that phantom zone between the two worlds, is the buzz-killer, ‘coz I feel sorta stuck there.

What do you do to motivate yourself when just the desire for success doesn’t seem to be enough?
