Ames, I love the commercial showing the father and son out in a boat, fishing.
The son looks at his father and says, “I think it’s time I got a cell phone.”
The father, barely missing a beat, replies, “I think it’s time you got a job.”

But seriously…yes, I can understand having them, as I said, for emergency purposes or special events. But this conversing 24-7…nope. Don’t get it.

I get so few calls on my cell, i have to remember how to answer the dang thing. But yes, they are everywhere. I’ve done double takes at people talking seemingly to themselves only to realize…hey they have a cell phone.

Oh but how freeing it was in the early and middle stages of mom’s Alzheimer’s, the period of time when I could go out just as long as I kept checking in on her – and she still had enough faculties to call me. A lifeline. But I just don’t understand why people are so glued to it – I think you’re right, they can’t stand to be alone. If you have that many voices talking to you, you ought to be writing.

I dont even answer my home phone….why the hell would I want a cell phone. HOn, I don’t get it either and my son would commit murder for a cell phone–figuratively speaking. All his friends have one. I CAN see the advantage of him having one when he takes off to the mall etc but that doesn’t mean he’s getting one. :mrgreen:
