This breathtaking work of art is here for no other reason than the fact that it’s my blog and I’ve always thought they were beautiful. :grin:

This magnificent sand mandala is known as The Kalachakra.

They are maps of the universe and the meditative mind. Both primitive and exquisite, they are painstakingly created by hand, according to Buddhist tradition, with colored sand, using funnels and scrapers until the pre-determined pattern is achieved. Once finished, the mandala is destroyed, symbolizing the transitory nature of things.

Absolutely gorgeous.
