DUPLICITY?

plagiari.jpg

I had a post pretty well written and ready to go, but I’ve decided to link to this instead.
Just when you think you’ve heard it all…

Whether you’re a wannabee, a newbie author, paying for publication, desperately seeking representation, a wiccan looking for a reason—whateverYOU MIGHT WANT TO READ THIS POST.
What’s the truth behind it? It’s possible that only the people involved know. I couldn’t believe my eyes, and said there was ‘no excuse’ for such a thing. Turns out there may not be an excuse…but there may be a reason. (Not a GREAT reason, but a reason).

Lessons to be learned there, perhaps chief among them being
LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ABOUT THE BUSINESS.

The post is at DEAR AUTHOR. Warning—there are a ton of comments to a story that gets stranger and stranger as it develops.
So when you finish there, be sure to join me at the CHICAS site for a laugh.
I needed one!

SIGH…

mohicans-2.JPG

I watched a movie I hadn’t seen in several years this weekend, and I gotta tell ya, it was just…
SIGH… :)

LAST OF THE MOHICANS played on AMC a few times this weekend, and I’d forgotten how good this movie is.

Daniel-Day Lewis has to be the yummiest Hawkeye EVAH. Of course, I’m biased. I ADORE a hero of few words, confident bearing, and sex appeal oozing from his pores. A man willing to risk everything for love of a woman. Forget about whether he’s black, white, oriental, blue, a ‘noble savage’, rogue cop, ex-drug lord—this kind of man makes me want to run the panties up the flagpole.

The movie is actually a little violent for my taste, but beautifully filmed and executed.
And the romance between Hawkeye and Cora is…
SIGH… :)

It was released in 1992, but if you haven’t seen it, it’s more than worth watching.
And if this hero doesn’t do it for you, it’s time for a cardio checkup, ladies.

PARLEZ?

Dear Mastercard/ Visa/ CapitalOne/ Discover/ Gas Company/ AT&T/ Hospital/ AOL/ Recording Angel of Death:

I know how busy all of you are handling various disgruntled customers. And I’m well aware that English is one of the most difficult languages to learn.

I was hoping, however, that you could explain the logic of having a person who doesn’t speak English manning your Customer Service telephones.

I’m not referring to someone with a bit of an “accent”. I’m talking someone who probably recently arrived from the Zeta Reticuli binary star system. And I fail to see how it could be considered “good customer service” if your employee and I have to stop every five seconds because one of us is saying, “Huh?” or “What?”

I certainly support equal employment opportunities for all. But I don’t think you’re prepared to pay the medical bills of a financially strapped single woman who opens her statement, finds she’s been triple-charged for a repair service, and can’t get your representative to understand that she’s having a heart attack about it.

Regards,
~~Raine

P.S.~
If that conversation was taped for customer satisfaction purposes, yes—I meant every word I said.

MURDER MOST FOUL?

murder.JPG

A new ‘reality’ show debuted on television this summer, and if you haven’t seen this, it’s rather interesting.

It’s simply called MURDER.

Tailor-made for most armchair detectives (and who isn’t?), it features two teams of three people each—average citizens who believe they have a knack for solving crimes. These people are given 48 hours to investigate the forensics of a perfectly recreated crime scene, listen to interviews of suspects, and question a coroner about the details of the murder (based on a REAL murder, btw). They must then present their theories to a real-life detective who reveals where they went right…or terribly wrong.

It’s not only fascinating to guess for yourself what happened and who the murderer is, but to watch the interaction between these people—most of whom have obviously watched a LOT of CSI, lol, and a few who are obviously in the wrong line of work, letting their imaginations carry them far, far away from any factual conclusion.

The only drawbacks are that the viewer is at the mercy of the clues found by the teams (they often miss a lot), and the show has a tendency to be rather gory at times. I SWORE it was a real, bloodied body they were examining when I first tuned in (it’s turned out to be a mannequin, but ya coulda fooled me).

In my neck of the woods, it comes on cable channel SPIKE TV on Tuesday and Saturday nights, but check your local listings if you’re interested. I believe the videos are also available for watching here.
A very unusual show.
