OPINION?

thinker2.JPG

An impromptu poll, if you please?

When you visit an author’s site, do you take the time to read any excerpts that might be posted there?
Are you interested in reading excerpts from unpublished work, or only from work available for purchase?
And if you’re a writer, do you worry about posting excerpts from work in progress, in case someone should find something…er, ‘tempting’ there?

Thank you!

WARMING

warming.JPG

A United Nations panel of Nobel Prize-winning scientists has released a report stating that the chances of extreme climate change are “severe and so sweeping that only urgent, global action” can head it off.”

Disclaimer: I confess, I’ve always been a big proponent of the ecological movement.
But this is not a matter of which political party one belongs to, or protecting big-money markets, or even when we ‘feel like’ getting around to it.
These are the most lauded scientists in the world telling us, “Hey, folks—we’re looking at species exterminations, ice sheet and glacial melting, rising sea levels, droughts, floods, severe heat waves, and erosion. You do NOT shit where you eat.”

And for some reason our “leaders” are behaving like kids awakened by an alarm on a school morning, who turn it off, roll over, and mumble, “yeah, ok…just a few more minutes of sleep…”

We’re talking about our home here, the only one we have. We’re talking about the future of our children—and what’s more important than that?
Even if you DON’T believe in the global warming theory, you can’t think it’s healthy to keep pumping carbon and pollutants into our air and water.
These people are warning us that we’re destroying ourselves.
It’s time to wake up.

And yeah, it’s nice to buy the energy-saving light bulbs, or take a shorter shower than usual, uh-huh…but we need to get our government and big business’ asses in gear. Give your representative a good kick or two, and remind them who they’re working for. If it doesn’t work, get them the hell out of office.

Yesterday was already too late.
(Raine, tucking soapbox away…)
