THE PHOENIX LIGHTS

phoenix.jpg

I meant to post this last week on the anniversary, of sorts, but real life got in the way
.
On March 13, 1997, thousands of people witnessed a procession of mysterious lights above the states of Arizona and Nevada.
THE PHOENIX LIGHTS were really two occurrences. One was a distinctly triangular formation, followed later by a series of stationary lights. Photos were taken, film was shot. Policemen confirmed the sightings, and people came out of their homes and stood staring at the sky in awe. Even the Republican governor of Arizona at the time admitted he’d seen it.

I distinctly remember when this was reported and shown on the news channels, and all the reactions nationwide ranging from ridicule to sheer childlike excitement.
And of course, the debunkers soon made their voices heard. There were even witnesses who swore they’d seen military aircraft cross the skies soon afterward, and attempt to drop flares in similar formations.

So the question is…have you ever seen something unusual in your skies?
No need to label it or go into detail, and feel free to post anonymously if you wish.
I’d have no problem with that—or with admitting that I have.

MOKO

I love animals.
And I’ve definitely been in the mood for a feel-good story (unless it’s nauseatingly sweet, and then I want to gag).

So this one was a natural for me.
Inter-species communication and rescue. My, we still have a lot to learn.

MOKO

In other news, I have a brief excerpt from TLMOE posted here.
Which means I’m cutting up at the CHICAS site today. :waving:

IS IT SPRING YET??

snow_.JPG

Mother Nature OWNED this area this weekend.
Blizzard-like conditions for nearly 36 hours. For much of that time we averaged one inch of snow per hour.

Airport–down. Freeways–closed. Cars, trucks, buses, even snow plows–littering the road.
Three deaths from shoveling. Over one thousand car accidents. All of this in an area that’s not unaccustomed to snow. This storm was a monster.

I wound up with just a bit over two feet, but it was drifting snow. The stand for my birdbath has been swallowed up, and my garage may now be called the Snow Dome.
The carcasses of mailboxes are everywhere. Pummeled by the city plows, their bodies are bent and twisted, their lids hanging open like tongues, and many were decapitated. Geysers of the white stuff could be seen everywhere from blowers, and spinning wheels sounded like block-party music on every street.
Nary a hip young man was to be found walking around with his pants slung stylishly low on his butt this weekend. I wonder why?

I pretty much hunkered down. A few times I decided to venture outside to feed the birds, put out a little dried corn for the poor deer. Let me tell you—there are few things stranger than seeing a small herd of deer running TOWARD you.
This was after having to force the door open against the snow dune (the wind was blowing my way, oh joy).

Yes, actually, I was very, very tempted to scream.
It didn’t help that The Shining was being shown on tv.

And yes, I’m well aware that I’ll be complaining about the heat in about three months.
