Raine's Secret Garden

MONDAY, MONDAY

I keep hearing it’s supposed to be spring. But I haven’t SMELLED it yet, so it can’t be official—and we actually had snow flurries today!
On the home front? I’m about to wrap up a rewrite on a novella I’m hoping to submit.
After that?
Must finish Mr. Pinky, just because I love it, whether it ever sells or not. And giving serious thought to tackling one of the two ms ideas rotting sitting on my hard drive that fascinate me. They’re not my usual type, and the idea of writing them is a little overwhelming.
But wth—I may give it a shot.

I do want to make a point of thanking a few people for their support of the new release:
Jorrie
Bernita
Suzanne
Bernard
Thanks, folks. Friends is good.

As a special note, Bernita is running a contest through April 30th. All you need to do is post a line from a novel/short story by a contemporary writer which made you say: “Oh crap, I wish I had written that.”
Prizes listed on site. Go pimp your favs!

I THINK MY HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE…

freaked.JPG

Gawd.
There are days, I swear, when I think I may never want to read another blog as long as I live.
Because there are days when I simply can’t believe people would say/do/think of the things I discover.

Good Lord—is it POSSIBLE we’ve sunk so low that we’re browbeating readers who don’t give us a thumbs-up, and actually stalking their children and grandparents?!

Dear Author (part I)
Dear Author (creepy part II)

Me?
I’m making a run for it.
I’ll be hiding out at the CHICAS site today.

SALUTE

I’m thinking I should sponsor some kind of giveaway with the new book.
I just haven’t figured out a way to do it, since most of the people who come here are friends anyway, lol. So I’ll have to think of something…

And I couldn’t let the death of Mr. Charlton Heston go unnoted.
From Moses to Ben-Hur, to The Agony and The Ecstasy to Planet of the Apes, he was a fine actor of great presence and stature.
They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
Thank you, Mr. Heston, for your memorable legacy.

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH

tlmoerelease.JPG

This is NOT a test…

(THE LAST MAN ON EARTH—Now available at Samhain Publishing).

Release day always involves a peculiar mix of emotions. But beyond anything else, I’d like to thank Vanessa and Sasha, for giving me credit before the thing even came out, lol, and Amie for setting up the website. And Milady Insanity, who’s being demonic kind enough to sponsor a giveaway of the book.
Thanks, ladies! :waving:

I’m blogging at the CHICAS site today. Please join us!

JUST FOR LAUGHS

I didn’t plan to blog today, but felt the need for a laugh or two this week. So I thought I’d share.
Who couldn’t use a laugh?

A gem at The Good, The Bad, and The Unread, about upcoming releases…in some twisted Bizarro world…

A vintage post that Vanessa Jaye reminded us of in her Chicas blog yesterday…see what happens when a group of fellow writers rally to help a friend choose a title…
CRACKED

JEEPERS! PEEPERS!!

I HAVE PEEPERS!
I HAVE PEEPERS!!

Although I’ve talked about them before, in case you didn’t know, peepers are little tree frogs that come out in the spring. And although I don’t believe it’s spring here yet (winter can be very devious), we had a warm day followed by a warm evening—and I guess the froggies are as anxious as we are for the season! :yesyesyes:

They sing at night, a delicate, peeping song like tiny silver chimes drifting through the dark. It’s almost ethereal, since the origin can’t be pinpointed because there can be hundreds of them at one time, but hauntingly beautiful.

Do I sound like a geek, going on like this? Ah, well…
Then I won’t describe how I was just out in the back yard doing a midnight version of “The Sound of Music”, twirling and whispering, “Sing! Sing!”
