I hear there’s going to be a big conference this week. :-)
I’ve never really had much desire to go to one of these, though I know they’re supposed to be valuable career-wise. Honestly.
I don’t like crowds or being confined to congested areas. Don’t like having to function under pressure, so I’d suck at pitches. Not comfortable conversing with strangers, so I’d probably sit in a corner like a lump. (Which makes me look forward to PBW’s “Left Behind and Loving It” workshop every year now).
But there is one thing I feel like I’m missing out on.
The inspiration from hearing the speakers and their advice and stories.
That kind of boost for the writer’s spirit is hard to come by when your sole contact with the publishing world basically consists of writing, submitting, praying, and waiting.
So here’s hoping everyone who IS going has a great time—and takes excellent notes.
The rest of us will be looking forward to them.
By an artist named Guido Daniele.
Isn’t this something?
So many talented people out there!

(And a whispered HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ms. Vanessa Jaye…but shhh…it’s a secret…)
I can remember being a very small child, sitting outside the school nurse’s office, waiting for my turn to take the eye exam. I memorized the chart on the wall down to the letter, just because I didn’t want to wear glasses.
But one year the chart on the inside of the office turned out to be different than the one on the outside.
I despised that woman with every fiber of my little being.
A few years ago I was diagnosed with an eye disease that could potentially lead to blindness.
And please, no hugs, well-wishes, etc., necessary. It’s checked on a regular basis (had it this weekend), and that’s not the point of this post.
This is basically a public service announcement, a reminder for those who procrastinate, or hate going to doctors if it can possibly be avoided.
It can’t.
An annual eye exam is a small price to pay for your vision. Trust me.
If it’s something you don’t do, please consider making it part of a yearly routine.
If it’s something you haven’t done, please make an appointment. Soon.
Thank you.
