Raine's Secret Garden

Last of the Legacy

Whatever my political beliefs might be (and I have a-plenty)…
Whatever other highlights there might have been at the Democratic National Convention amongst all the big names, musicians, agendas, and speeches…
However affected I was by the close-ups of the faces of the people, the yearning expressions of the citizens who refuse to embrace apathy…

Whatever might have happened in his past, whatever mistakes—some of them huge—may have been made by him and his family…

I must say that nothing moved me as much as seeing the terminally ill Ted Kennedy deliver what may be one last speech about dreams, hopes, and the future.
I’m old enough to remember the brothers and a still-idealistic country, so just listening to him speak was enough to bring on the tears.

(And btw…yes, I thought Mr. Obama’s speech was awesome).

I don’t have the resources of the big news channels, but I’m taking a poll at the CHICAS site today.

Sorry, Raine, but I have no sympathy for that bloated piece of human debris. I will never forget Chappaquiddick or the hours Teddy left Mary Jo Kopechne on the bottom of that channel, where investigators say she lived for two hours. If Mary Jo had been my daughter, Teddy would have been in hell a long time before this. When he dies, it will be like the scenes in ‘Ghost’ where the black demons rip the souls of bad guys down into hell.

Bernard, you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, and opinions are welcome here.
I know about the incident. And I certainly don’t mean any of this as any defense for what Kennedy did that night, or at any other time in his life, or much of the behavior of his brothers in their personal lives–which I believe I mentioned.
I’m not here to judge. I was simply casting a sentimental eye back on the idealistic, hopeful mindset of the country those many years ago. That was the point of the post.
