I’ve been keeping a suspicious eye on the trees. I’ve spotted the occasional leaf here and there that looks a little gold in the afternoon sun, as if a change was in the air.
Twilight takes charge of the horizon much sooner than it did a mere two weeks ago, and the chipmunks are aggressively stuffing their little cheeks with fallen birdseed.
I took a few moments to sit in the shade and watch the sparrows play in the birdbath. They splashed around like children in a pool, thoroughly enjoying themselves. And to my surprise, a hummingbird flitted by, glittering green, almost too fast to see.
It reminded me of summer.
To those of you in the U.S.A., have a Happy Labor Day!
To everyone else…get out there and enjoy what’s left of the season!

I’m looking at the trees for the opposite reason. We now have buds bursting on the blossom trees and new leaves everywhere. We also have daffodils and jonquils, a sure sign of spring, which arrived today – 1st September.
Beautiful glimpse of another rapidly approaching fall, Raine, with just a hint of summer nostalgia mixed in.
I’m looking forward to fall, especially being able to turn off the A/C. ::wave::
Congratulations on the coming spring, Suzanne. Something to look forward to. ;)
Thanks, Bernard–I hate to see it go! :-/
I like Fall too, Ann, and the cooler temperatures.
It’s the part that comes AFTER Fall I’m dreading…
Lament for sweet summer gone.
Bernita, you understand.
Very nice post, Raine.
I feel like we never had a summer. Yet, I do remember some days it was so hot it took all of my energy to stay awake in the afternoon. Our trees here are still green, the sun is till shining, but it takes longer to climb into the sky, and leaves a little earlier.
Yet, September is a new beginning too. I love when seasons change… I just love chagne. :D
I don’t mind seasonal change so much, Sasha.
I JUST MIND WINTER!!!!
I think we’re about to get dumped on from Gustav but it’s still green here though my leaves have been falling all summer–it was really hot. I have to say I’m ready for fall. The cool-down reenergizes me, so does Spring when things turn green. I think that’s my favorite of all!
Ames, I’ll send you packages of snow. ;)
