STARDATE…

Captain’s Log, Stardate 882008:

Despite the inexplicable failures of previous launchings, I have sent another probe into the dark void of the Publishing Nebula.

Before it was dispatched, the probe was certified by engineering to be error-free, aligned for target, and all censors functioning and duly employed for reception.

Computer analysis of the formation still shows no sign of life or activity as far as we can detect. The nebula’s borders display a shimmering brilliance that beckons to the weary traveler, and ancient legends that a treasure and, indeed, possible immortality, may be found there are a powerful lure. The black interior, however, remains a mocking mystery, drifting teasingly before us in the shape of a keyhole.

I must add that, although the ship has secured no PERMANENT damage from our stagnant orbit, the crew seems to be suffering from a sort of spiritual malaise. I am hoping the success of this latest launch may turn things around for this vessel, whose deflector shields have been severely buffeted during the course of this journey.

We wait, and continue to work in hope that this probe may be the one to find the way.
