Have you ever seen those feature stories on the news that show brides-to-be storming a store when they have a once-a-year mega-sale on bridal gowns? :)
KARIN TABKE’S infamous “First Line Contest” was held on Monday.
When the call went up at 7:00 p.m. Pacific time, the first 100 entrants would be entered into the contest.
The 100-person limit was reached within NINE MINUTES.
Mother of God. :o
And no, I’m not making fun of anyone. I was in on the stampede, just for the helluvit.
But can you imagine if it featured a guaranteed contract??! :D
(and yes, I have smilies again, so you may see too much of them for a little while…thanks, o mighty webmistress).

If you don’t know what the words in this title mean, then you haven’t seen the 1951 film classic “THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL”.
A very good old sci-fi film that actually had a message, and which starred the absolutely GORGEOUS Michael Rennie.

Certain things about this movie have never gone out of style—such as the Earth being on the verge of self-destruction.
And in case you had any doubt that we were…filmmakers seem to have come up with a REMAKE, starring Keanu Reeves, who’s also pretty easy on the eyes. :)

I’m not sure I’ll be going to see it. The previews look pretty much like the standard stuff; spaceship, automation, explosions, gutsy heroine, etc.
But what really puzzles me is why all the REMAKES?? Geez, is it really that hard to find fresh, new material—or are remakes just less trouble?

I’m blogging at the CHICAS site today.

Normally, I can’t think of a single good thing about Monday.
Honestly. The damned day ought to be banned…
But I guess there are always exceptions. :)
Stalwart blog-visitor to this site and the Chicas, BERNARD L, has just signed a publishing contract. YAAYYYY!!!!
Congratulations, Bernard, and Merry Christmas, lol.
Suzanne also has good news, just waiting for her to mention it first. ;)
And Vanessa Jaye has an interesting post up about “A Comfort Read vs A Stale Read.” Some things to think about.
