This distinguished gentleman,Pilot Chesley B. ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, hero of the Miracle on the Hudson plane incident, is a big time hero to me.
Imagine flying that huge hunk of metal, holding the lives of 155 people in your hands, and very calmly advising an air traffic controller as you’re going down that you can’t make it to the airport they’re directing you to, and without missing a beat or becoming the least bit ruffled, telling them, ““We’re going to be in the Hudson.”
And freaking MAKING it without a single casualty, just landing that baby right on top of the water.
And once all of the excitement and inquiries have been dealt with, he quietly called his hometown library to report that he might not be able to return a borrowed book. It was left on the plane that went down.
The book, btw, was a volume on ethics.
They let him slide.
I LOVE THIS GUY.
