I
I promise I’m not going to overdo this, lol—but with the release of “HOTTER THAN HELL” tomorrow, I’ve been thinking about some of the characters who live in the stories (the book is composed of two novellas).
One of the big considerations when I began writing this was, as always, to try to be true to the characters and storyline.
This book is not a ‘sweet’ romance. The heroine of The Rose Legacy is a recovering addict who believes money is the key to everything. The hero is of a different race, and may have been carrying on an affair with the heroine’s aunt. And the heroine’s aunt, far from being some snooty, middle-age busybody, is a beautiful, decadent woman with no morals whatsoever (I love this woman).
In Ravenous, succubus Leyla is every man’s wet dream—except for that pesky habit of draining them of life. The ladies’ man protagonist has failed at every endeavor in his life, including serving God, and remains consistent by becoming obsessed with a demoness, the one woman he can’t have.
There are no shrinking violets or dashing heroes or particularly noble causes in this book. That’s not to say I don’t write them, but those elements didn’t fit these stories. There is love, there is humor; but this is a virtual hell.
And paranormal elements or not, these characters are all very human.
I’d love to take credit for that, but that’s how they introduced themselves to me.
I hope you’ll enjoy meeting them as much I did. :)
