Raine's Secret Garden

Ya Think?

“Creativity is akin to insanity, say scientists who have been studying how the mind works.”

And I’m sure this comes as a huge surprise to anyone who is, or anyone who knows anyone who is very creative.

According to this article by the BBC News, “highly creative people and those with schizophrenia…lack important receptors used to filter and direct thought.”

So hey—all you creative folks out there? Next time you walk into a wall because you’re preoccupied with plotting, or can’t be arsed to eat because your heroine’s huddling in a cellar, hiding from her stalker, or you’re quite sure you’re hearing those little voices?
You have a perfectly good excuse. :wootrock:

If you’re curious (or want written proof to present at your competency hearing), the article can be found HERE:

(thanks to Saskia Walker for the head’s-up on this article).

Huh?

*****
I simply cannot believe this is the last Friday of May.
Where in the world has the year gone?!
Seems like the older I get, the faster the time goes. And it takes me twice as long to do half as much.
There’s something very wrong with that math…

I’m blogging at the CHICAS site today. Please join us.

A Little Softshoe…

So, I’m writing.

Not well. Am most definitely rusty, and it’s showing.
And not with my former fervor, and definitely not with any current thoughts of where I might submit the work.

But writing, in the way that I’m visiting with the characters I left hanging and catching up on things. They’re a pretty rowdy bunch of people actually, and eager to tell their stories to someone.

So, for now, it’s just us, hanging out together and having a good time.
Beyond that—again, we’ll see.

Suckage +

*****
It’s gradually getting warmer here, and my grass is, sadly, nearly as tall as my knees.
No, not completely due to laziness. The only time I really have to do it justice is on the weekend and, naturally, it has been raining. Every. Single. Weekend.
But this one’s supposed to be dry, so I’ll be working on it.
And yes. Being able to get my grass cut is about the best news I have to share right now.
That, and the fact that I’m blogging at SFC today. Please join us.

Thank You

To Lena Horne. Songstress, actress, Broadway star, and breakthrough Black pioneer in the entertainment industry. I had so much respect for this beautiful woman who achieved so much, and always lamented the fact that she couldn’t seem to do more.

To Frank Frazetta, fantasy artist extraordinaire. Comic books, paperbacks, record albums, and paintings featured his work, including the Edgar Rice Burroughs books and Conan the Barbarian. A phenomenal imaginative force, one of his original Conan paintings sold at auction for one million dollars.

Thank you, Ms. Horne, Mr. Frazetta.
You’ve left great legacies.
