Most of the authors I know are pretty generous-hearted people.
They don’t just blog or do Facebook for promo (or if they do, I don’t visit them much). They like to share with readers and other writers, offer a little insight, seek opinions, and offer their writing—not just for sale, but in the form of free reads, either on site or for download at a free service.
They want to share.
And so it was that, after spending quite a bit of time on a takedown notice for one of my books that does NOT happen to be free, I tripped over to PBW’s site…
And found her post about how Scribd was charging readers for downloads of her FREE work, without notifying her or paying her anything in the way of royalties.
I love offering freebies when I can. But if I’d ever considered posting anything there, that desire’s gone the way of disco.
Seriously, people? I mean…seriously?
