Raine's Secret Garden

No Evil

no evil

Current progress:
I’m still working to get the website updated as far as old/new versions of my books, and getting my sorely-neglected newsletter back in order. Actually, the temptation is to start fresh with a new look for the blog. I’ve had this one for several years now, and I have seen a couple of other templates I like. But I don’t want to wind up using it as a distraction, which would be easy to do. I think I’ll see how the new publishing direction goes, and try to focus on the writing at the mo.

The good news is that I have settled on a formatter–someone who’s also an author and knows the ropes. I’ve also found the cover artist I want to start with. He’s actually done a couple for me in the past, and when I found out he also freelances I figured yeah–we should do this. That’s assuming he doesn’t go running for the hills after the wordy art request I sent him, lol.

And finally…
Since I’ve been on Facebook for a few weeks now, I can see that the thing is actually a lifestyle for some people. I don’t personally feel the allure of the addiction to the media; I can see using it for writing/publishing news, or casual short conversation. But I’ve already ‘unfriended’ a citizen or two who felt that Facebook was a forum for all the vitriol they could manage to spew.
And while I fully intend to use it for promotion, :big: I must admit I’ve never seen so much promo outside of all the infomericals that populate tv in the wee hours! Geez! If that’s all you have to talk about, why would anyone want to listen?!

I took a moment this weekend to follow my hero on Twitter. :big:

And actually, it’s more bizarre than it sounds, lol.

I’ve spoken here before about some of the strange, synchronous circumstances that can occur when you’re a creator of fiction. My first experience came with one of my first completed mss. The heroine lived in a warm clime, drove an old-style Volkswagon Love-Bug, and her name was Roxanne St. Clair.
Less than two years later, an about-to-be pubbed author joined one of my online wrters’ groups. She lived in a warm clime, had once owned a Volkswagon Love-Bug…and her name was Roxanne St. Clair.

Fast-forward to a couple of years ago, after my novel
HOTTER THAN HELL was epubbed. It featured a novella called “Raveous”, with a hero named Adam Bachmann.
And wasn’t I surprised when I received an email from a total stranger one day. He just wanted to let me know he’d seen my book described on Google. And that his name was Adam Bachmann, he lived in New York…and he had a band there called “Ravenous”.

Mr. Bachmann followed me on Twitter this weekend and we touched bases again. He seems to be doing fine, and I’m hopeful he’ll stay that way, as long as he doesn’t hook up with a demoness named Leila.

But it did give me pause to think. I’m thinking of creating a brand new mysterious hero for a brand new story.
And I think I’ll name him Wynn Lottery

Happy B-Day, Samhain!!

SAMHAIN PUBLISHING is celebrating its seventh year in business!!

It honestly doesn’t seem as if it’s been around that long. I remember my first submission, and how excited I was to be accepted among a handful of enthusiastic authors.

Since then it’s become one of the premiere electronic pubs, and I’m still honored to be a part of the pack.

To celebrate the occasion, Samhain has released a video, complete with instructions about downloading and enjoying your e-books. Yes, I swear, there are serious instructions there, lol–once you get past the fun.
